Identification number of an entity of national economy consists of 9 digits assigned to a legal person, an organisational entity without legal personality or a natural person running economic activity. The first eight digits of the number make an ordinal, whereas the ninth digit is a check code.

Identification number of a local unit consists of 14 digits, where first nine are the ID number of a legal person, an organisational entity without legal personality or a natural person running economic activities that created a local unit. Next four digits make an ordinal assigned to this local unit, and the fourteenth is a check code for the entire number of a local unit.

ID number is used in official registers and information systems of public administration. Bodies maintaining such registers and systems are obliged to enter the ID number and use it when transmitting information.
